Sports are our starting line for a more INCLUSIVE Maine.
At Special Olympics Maine, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to belong, contribute, and reach their full potential. Through year-round sports, health and wellness, leadership, education, and community programming, we empower children and adults with intellectual disabilities to discover their strengths, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.
But our work is about more than sports.
Our Mission
Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Our Vision
A Maine where people with intellectual disabilities are fully included, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential—on the field of play and in every aspect of life.
